Mercurial Anelka to stay at the Bridge

25th June 2010

Chelsea FC's goal scoring talisman, Nicolas Anelka, has signed a 1 year extension to his existing contract, thereby keeping him with Chelsea FC until 2012.

Anelka, 31, has had a wonderful resurgence in his career since joining the Blues in 2008.  He and strike partner, Didier Drogba, are recognised as one of the most deadliest combinations in world football.

With the retention of Anelka, and the recent departures of Michael Ballack, and Joe Cole, speculation is rife that Chelsea FC will be looking to bring an attacking midfielder to the Bridge to play alongside the inimitable Frank Lampard.

Highlighting his popularity, Anelka's 'shirt on canvas' image has been one of CaptureSport's biggest sellers.
